I know that this "3rd party" starts with an small letter n :) . Or I might be wrong.
I think their strategy was to get attention using "survey" and "polls" as bait for people to click on their link or simply take a second look at their ad. A lot of people are inclined to answer polls because it will just take them a few clicks to share their opinion.

I personally did not opt in for that feature. But as for "privacy issues", you can actually edit the questions of your survey to make it more fun or related to your website and not the standard "gender, etc." questions which is on default and can actually take personal info from visitors. But if you really want to start a poll or survey on your site, this can actually be a useful tool that you can opt to use.

If one is insulted or received an unfair treatment from a food establishment such as a restaurant, I think it is better to first talk to the manager or supervisor not to scare them with your blogging threats but as an ordinary customer. Try to be civil and respectful amidst the stress, don't be respectful for you'll be just as disrespectful as them if one decides to do repeat the cycle. If by then there haven't been any justice given to you, then you can take actions there. Either file a formal customer complaint, etc but never use your blog to control anyone or any establishment.

A blogger can still blog about his experience but that is after he/she have exhausted all of the things I've said above. It is still democracy at work here and as a customer we have the right to also be treated. If one wants to blog about their bad experiences then tell only the truth and what took place, don't add anything up, be honest and don't ask for sympathy. Let people be a judge for themselves.
