Vignette [Android App]

image

If you're using an Android phone,  the best app to download (and purchase, if you can) is Vignette. It's a camera app that has a ton of filters and options. For $4, i think it's a steal!

My favorite feature is the ability to make shortcuts on the homescreen direct to the preset settings. I have 2 shortcuts right now - one for Diana and another for random vintage look.

Here are some samples:

Diana (Toy Camera) Filter

Holga B/W Filter

Retro Filter

You can try out the free version which comes with everything except the ability to use bigger sizes / higher resolutions.

You can search for it via the Android Market or download it here: Vignette (Demo) / Vignette (Full/Paid)

Crowdfunding through ChipIn

One of the internet's biggest strengths is its ability to connect many people together -- even if those people don't know each other personally. This has led to a type of outsourcing where instead of tapping just one entity or company, you tap many different people. Crowdsourcing has become in recently with many projects being cut down into smaller component parts and being distributed to different service providers/freelancers.

Another offshoot of this phenomenon is Crowdfunding. Instead of getting just one venture capitalist or investor, you harness the power of the "crowd" on the internet and get funding that way. More commonly, this is used for charitable purposes, but is not just limited to that. Crowdsourcing for applications and application features, especially for the bigger open source apps, is a way of getting funding for something that's meant to be used by everybody.

And here is where ChipIn comes in. ChipIn is a flash based application that can be used as a widget on your blogs or websites so you yourself can get funding for your project by tapping on the crowd! You can set specific goals (amounts) and each donation brings a bar closer to that goal. People can also pay via credit card or through the now ubiquitous Paypal.

The best part about this is that the service is absolutely free. They don't charge any fees. I don't exactly understand how their business model works but I'm not complaining.

Try it now: ChipIn

Manila Blogs’ New Look

As you may have noticed, we've changed our look!

  1. Our logo is now consistent with Manila Reviews (you'll see more of that in our other blogs as well).
  2. The layout is simpler and more navigable than before.
  3. The background is also not as heavy (not that it was that much heavy last time) but this should give the site a bit of a boost.

Most importantly, I'm also changing what this blog is about.  Aside from being a blog about blogging -- our topics have expanded to all things geeky that personally interest me.  Therefore, this would most likely be about: blogging, social media, technology, gadgets, productivity, and the android platform.

So please do keep coming back and keep visiting! :)
